Supervisory Medical Support Assistant

The GS-8 Supervisory MSA incumbent is responsible for insuring that the work assignments of the section are carried out by performing a range of duties and functions. Must be able to lead a diverse group of employees and is considered an expert in the functions and capabilities of a GS-7 Lead MSA. Incumbent will be expected to communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of staff within the Medical Center. Incumbent is expected to exhibit the VA Core Values of ICARE (Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, Excellence) when interacting with clinical and administrative staff, leadership, Veterans, family members, etc., at all times. The incumbent must demonstrate technical competency and expertise in the use of computer systems and software relevant to the business needs of HAS, such as Vista, CPRS and MyHealtheVet/Secure Messaging systems. The incumbent will oversee all outpatient administrative functions and therefore must have thorough knowledge of policies and directives governing access, outpatient scheduling and clinic management. The incumbent must be knowledgeable of VA medical care, priorities for care, release of information (ROI), Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and Non-VA /Community Care programs. Incumbent will be a leave approving official for the employees within their designated supervisory section. Incumbent will provide supervisory cross-coverage for other members of the Supervisory Team within HAS, as necessary. The Supervisory MSA must collaborate with the clinical services/clinics to evaluate clinic needs, support and involvement in action plans, in an ongoing and timely manner. Incumbent must ensure quality assurance for all work produced or completed within areas of responsibility. Incumbent will review and interpret all Quality Assurance reports surrounding Scheduling, Access, Workload outliers, Administrative processes and develop action plans for process improvement along with oral and written presentations. Incumbent will evaluate overall performance of employees and provide frequent feedback to staff regarding attendance, performance and behavior. Incumbent will utilize Lead MSAs (subject matter experts) to assist and train new staff in orientation activities through shared knowledge and specific clinic scheduling expertise, as well as oversee the day-to-day flow of clinic performance. VHA Outpatient Scheduling Processes and Procedures, Process for Managing Patients When Patient Demand Exceeds Current Clinic Capacity, Priority Scheduling for Outpatient Medical Services and Inpatient Hospital Care for Service Connected Veterans and Priority for Outpatient Medical Services and Inpatient Hospital Care. Knowledge of VA regulations, Systems Redesign Principles, local Medical Center Memoranda/policies, and standard operating procedures. Knowledge of eligibility for VA medical care, priorities for care, release of information, Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Laws, and the Medical Fee Basis programs. Must have knowledge of and be able to provide information about VA Medical Care Cost Recovery Program to patients regarding insurance data collection and revenue collection. The incumbent must have a solid knowledge of multiple systems and current computer technology regarding imaging applications, PC Fax applications, and numerous VISTA applications. The incumbent must be conscientious regarding the confidentiality of the variety of material that will be handled. The position requires a practical knowledge of an extensive body of the organization's rules and regulations governing confidentiality, including but not limited to the Privacy Act, HIPAA, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), and 38 U.S.C. 7332 governing the release of records containing information regarding the treatment of drug and/or alcohol abuse, Sickle Cell Anemia and infection with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).Skill in compiling readily available data from prescribed sources; knowledge of the organization to search records, files, or electronic data banks to locate information needed, and to verify information given. Familiarity with one or more established automated systems to enter, correct, and retrieve factual information. Incumbent must possess working knowledge of clinic processes and services to function in and interact with various clinics throughout the hospital. Employee must have knowledge of and ability to apply policies and procedures associated with operational activities that affect workload data.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
